Several of our VRCBC members went south over the July long weekend to compete in the Pacific Northwest Historics put on by our good friends at SOVREN at Pacific Raceways in Seattle.

Proudly showing ‘our flag’ (well actually our decals) were: Shelby Clark (#37 yellow Alfa), Steve Clark (#260 yellow Elva), Karlo Flores (#59 white Sprite), Paul Haym (#82 orange BMW), Tim Pickstone (#63 green Porsche), Phil Pidcock (#46 blue Spitfire), Gil Stuart (#29 red Volvo), Roger van der Marel (#40 green Alfa), Doug Yip (#782 red Mustang) and Ralph Zbarsky (#130 green MGB GT).

The VRCBC was invited to participate in the Grand Opening of the fabulous new Area 27 track in Oliver on June 3rd. A group of our racers did some demonstration laps and had a very enjoyable time doing it!

Our long time friends Jim Moody and Brent Martin have provided us with a lot of photos, which you can see below. (Thanks guys).

There are other photos and videos on our VRCBC Facebook page and the Area 27 Facebook page (here). And Brent has posted many more on his personal web site (here).

Gerry Frechette has published over 800(!) of his Grand Opening photos in five albums on his web site (here). Check them out!

Update: There is also an excellent video presentation of the Grand Opening on Vimeo (here).

It was a great day at a great new facility; our congratulations to everyone involved!

The west coast Vintage racing community is in mourning. Legendary racer Charles (Chuck) Lyford passed away from the injuries he suffered in a race accident at Spokane on June 4th. The entire Lyford family are long time supporters of the VRCBC and we reported (here) on Chuck and his wife Pam’s victory in the 2013 Vintage Cape Horn Rally.

There are already many stories and remembrances about Chuck’s amazing life across the internet. Our own Mike Tate has written down his memories and thoughts (here) on this remarkable man and his family. The VRCBC offers its sincere condolences to the Lyford family and his many, many friends in the Vintage racing community and beyond.

Long time VRCBC supporter Jim Moody was at this year’s Knox Mountain Hillclimb and has sent us a few of his photos plus some others from ‘back in the day’ showing some of the ‘heroes of yesteryear’ in action. Thanks very much Jim.

Check the Knox Mountain website (here) in the next week or so for more of his photos from this year’s event.
