The VRCBC was again part of the Confederation of Autosport Car Clubs – better known as the CACC – display at this year’s Vancouver International Autoshow. The show ran from Wednesday, March 23rd to Sunday, March 27th at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The CACC once again secured a high profile location and had a very impressive display (check out the photos below). Last year was considered to be a great success and this year was even better. Many show visitors stopped to look at our racing cars and to talk about all forms of amateur motorsport, including our favourite, Vintage racing.

Update: Initial indications are that over 100,000 people visited the Autoshow over the five days, and that approximately 1,000 (!) of them submitted an entry form to the draw for a free registration in the SCCBC’s very popular Driver Training Program to be held this coming June at the Mission Raceway Road Course.

A big thank you from the VRCBC to the CACC for organizing the display, to all those who provided their cars – and karts – and to all those members of the various clubs who contributed their time to ‘work’ the show.

The VRCBC ‘assigns’ (ahem) its ‘correspondents’ to race events all over the world! This weekend, Gunter Pichler left his well-known Vintage racing XKE at home and attended the HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing Ltd.) races supporting the Mobil1 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida. He sent us a few photos of the Vintage action. Thanks Gunter!

The VRCBC held another of its very popular kart race events on March 15th at Fast Track Karting in Langley. A great time was had by all. Congratulations to the overall winners, Rod Kenyon and Daryl Armstrong, and to our youngest (by far) entrant, Max Inkpen, who set the fastest lap. Well done everybody; see you all next time.

Check out the full results and some photos (apologies for the fuzzy quality) below.

A classic English moment at the Shuttleworth Collection's 'Best of British Airshow' captured by Linda and Manny Zumm

A classic English moment at the Shuttleworth Collection’s ‘Best of British Airshow’ captured by Linda and Manny Zumm

The VRCBC’s very own international ambassadors. Linda and Manny Zumm have been at it again! When they aren’t helping with racing at Mission, they are travelling somewhere interesting. In the past, they have provided us with photos of their visit to the famous Goodwood Revival (here) and of the fascinating ‘vintage’ cars of Havana (here). This past July they were back in England and some friends surprised them with tickets to the “Best of British Airshow” at The Shuttleworth Collection (here) located at the Old Warden Aerodrome near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire.

The event showcased aircraft designed and built by the best of the many historic British manufacturers from the earliest days. In addition, the TVR Car Club was invited to drop by and celebrate the 75th (!) anniversary of that famous British sports car.

The Shuttleworth pre-event promotional video (on You Tube here) describes the plans for the show and the post-event video (here) shows many of the historic aircraft in action. Two World War 1 era fighters – a Sopwith Snipe and an Albatros DVa – were brought all of the way from New Zealand for the show.

The weather was perfect as you can see from Linda and Manny’s photos below. Thanks for the trip report guys; we look forward to the next one!
